A partnership in genomic medicine

Harvard University is a leading educational institution in the fields of medicine, medical research, and discovery, carrying a long legacy of academic and scientific excellence since its establishment in 1782.

Harvard Medical School stands out for its prestigious postgraduate programs and pioneering medical research. It collaborates with numerous leading hospitals in the treatment, discovery, and training of medical personnel, such as:

  • Brigham and Women's Hospital
  • Boston Children's Hospital
  • Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
  • and other top healthcare institutions in Boston.

In partnership with Harvard University and Brigham and Women's Hospital, represented by the International Centre for Genetic Diseases, specialised training courses were held for Bahraini professionals to strengthen their skills and enable them to apply best practices in personalised and genomic medicine in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in support of the goals of the National Genome Project.

A delegation from the National Genome Centre was also sent to Harvard University in the United States to gain scientific expertise in personalised and genomic medicine and to take local scientific research further.

Training the Bahraini delegation

The participating scholarship delegates of the program received intensive training on the sequencing of human DNA for the Bahraini community, as well as the analysis of samples with definitive genetic mutations during a training period that extended for several months.

Impact of the partnership

The future outcomes of this partnership contribute to the development of diagnostic tools and new treatments for genetic diseases, as well as improving the quality of healthcare in the Kingdom of Bahrain by providing advanced and specialized medical services to patients.

It also opens new horizons for scientific research and innovation in the field of genomics, contributing to the positive impact of genetic research and healthcare in Bahrain at both the local and global levels.
